I love getting my information in a variety of mediums. Books, seminars, blogs, audio books, pod casts, documentaries – I like them all. So, I thought you may be interested in some great documentaries that you can rent, stream or buy (check out Netflix or Amazon) Sometimes, you just want to sit and veg on the couch, and at least with these movies, you’ll feel too guilty to eat chips while you do…
Forks Over Knives
Forks Over Knives documentary is centered around Dr. T. Colin Campbell and Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, to of the pioneers in using food as medicine. This documentary is a really interesting look into the research and implementation of diet as a means to cure diseases. I really enjoyed it and thought it was full of great information.
Food Matters
I first came across Food Matters from The Wellness Warrior, who cured her own cancer with the Gerson Method. This documentary also looks at food at medicine, but isn’t as heavy into research and focuses on raw food and vitamin therapy.
Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead
This documentary chronicles Joe Cross‘s efforts to regain his health from a debilitating autoimmune disease by consuming ONLY fresh pressed juice for 60 days as he travels across the US. He happens to run into an obese truck driver who has the same rare autoimmune disease and offers to help him. This is when the story really gets interesting and amazing.
Ingredients
A beautiful documentary, the cinematography will make you hungry! Ingredients looks at the local food movement. Understand why supporting local agriculture is important, healthier and tastier. You will love meeting the farmers, chefs, and seeing the gorgeous food!

Food, Inc.
Food, Inc. is a great documentary primarily delving into the global food production business and how advancements in science and technology are making products that can cause disease. A must see if you haven’t already.
Crazy, Sexy Cancer
Here, Kris Karr documents her journey when she finds that she has incurable cancer. Searching for a cure, she will try anything! Funny, serious, and informative, this is an awesome look into using food to cure disease.
TED Talks: Chew on This
I just love TED talks. This is an interesting series of talks that I streamed from Netflix. I love the variety of presenters and informations. Watch one or all!
TED Talks: Defying Disease
Not all of this TED series is about food, but all are fascinating. The first episode does give a scientific look into why food can help prevent and cure cancer. It gives the science behind the miracle healing powers behind food.
The Gerson Miracle
A documentary looks at the system that Dr. Max Gerson developed in the 1920′s that has cured thousands of people. Just ask The Wellness Warrior, who cured her rare cancer with Gerson Therapy: food is medicine!
The following documentaries are a little harder to get your hands on for free or minimal cost. You can’t rent them or stream them, so at this point, if you are interested, you have to buy them. (Any other ideas, leave them in the comments!)
May I be Frank
This is a fun documentary follows Frank, an obese, depressed man, as he changes his health, body and mind by eating whole, raw foods from Cafe Gratitude. Funny at times, tear jerking at others and very inspirational.
Hungry for Change
I got lucky and watched this great documentary for free during their promotional period. Hungry for Change features health gurus, Dr. Junger, Kris Karr, David Wolf, Dr. Mercola, and even Frank (from May I be Frank!) It is a great look into food and health.
Simply Raw
This fascinating documentary takes 6 “uncurable” diabetic Americans through 30 days of raw eating to see what would happen to their diabetes. Simply Raw shows how Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes were both reversed after 30 days.
Alright, fearless health adventurers, time to relax and learn! Rent one of these and I promise it will inspire you to get back on track and see food as the medicine it is!

You should check out King Corn – fascinating look at the corn industry. The US government subsidizes corn, which is sold cheap to soda companies and beef producers to make fast food, which makes us fat and unhealthy, which makes pharma companies rich. Not to mention GMO seed producers and pesticide companies. Ugh!
I have heard of that one, thanks for reminding me. I’ll have to put in my Netflix queue! There are so many facets to this problem, it really feels overwhelming sometimes. The most important things we can do is keep educated about it and make healthy personal choices that support the farmers and manufacturers that are doing it right. It will eventually force the big companies to change.
