Cafe Gratitude Opens in Kansas City!

I have been waiting for this grand opening since I watched a screening of May I be Frank movie almost two years ago.

When I heard that a local girl, Natalie George, was doing everything in her power to bring Cafe Gratitude to Kansas City after eating there on business, I didn’t hold my breath. How was she going to convince them to franchise it in KANSAS CITY? New York, Los Angeles, even Santa Fe seemed more likely places to expand (and they didn’t even want to expand!) But, Kansas City? I know it is a unique spiritual breeding ground for amazing, open-minded people…but most big city people don’t see that side of KC. They just think BBQ and Kansas City Strip Steak.

But, Natalie persisted. She attended Cafe Gratitude seminars in San Francisco, got to know the owners, and helped bring screening of May I be Frank to Kansas City (the documentary which featured Cafe Gratitude).

FINALLY, after finding investors and an amazing General Manager (who COINCIDENTALLY had eaten at the Cafe Gratitude in San Francisco and also wanted to bring the concept to Kansas City before he even met Natalie. Crazy, awesome universe.) Cafe Gratitude opened its door to Kansas City May 1st.

And I got to eat there yesterday!  My girlfriend and I got two appetizers – the vegan nachos and hummus.  YUM YUM YUM! I wasn’t expecting to be blown away by hummus, I eat it all the time.  But they add pureed nuts and different spices that make it extra yummy and unique.

The vegan nachos totally rocked.  I don’t even know how they make them vegan and still taste good, but they do.  Trust me.

I was so full from the appetizers that I ended up taking my “I am Whole” quinoa bowl home and ate it for dinner. It has some insane garlic sauce over avocados and seaweed (weird, but it works!).

Next time, I’m trying the desserts. I plan on having the vegan cheesecake for lunch :)

Kansas Citians, it is a complete honor and privilege that this famous San Francisco restaurant is here, so GO TRY IT OUT! Support the owner’s dream of bringing whole food and a loving culture to the Midwest!

Kansas City really is a great town. Being from San Fran area, I can say that it is a REALLY easy place to raise a family. All my friends are in the suburbs anyway – and KC is just like a a big Bay Area suburb (with sucker weather, unfortunately. But we do get to ice state and sled)

      You are welcome any time!
