Help Me Plan a Trip (Pretty Please)

I HAVE A DREAM!

And it is to travel all over the world.  With you.

Want to come with me?

Karma Club

As many of you already know, I organize intimate gatherings with fascinating speakers and healing practitioners that I call “Karma Club.”  While it is intimate, anyone who wants to join us is always welcome.

Last night was another FREAKING AWESOME Karma club with guest speaker and hynotherapist, Valerie Wells.  We all got a 20 minute stress reduction hypnosis and it was heavenly.  I’ll write about it more later.

I bring this up because I have been wanting to take the Karma Club on the road.  There are only so many amazing people here in Kansas City.  While I plan to find every last one of them, I have this BURNING DESIRE to seek out other inspirational people and soulful adventures.

What kind of trip would you want to go on?

I have some ideas up my sleeve, but I wanted to get your input, since I’ll be inviting you along.

Even if you don’t think you will join me, just tell me what would entice you the most.  What kind of trip would make you think twice about going?

Here are some ideas:

1.  A trip centered around meditation, yoga, and learning about core buddhist principals

2.  A trip centered around heath, healing your body through food, juicing and learning from top health experts?

3.  A trip centered around nature, physical endurance, with a spiritual bent (like hiking to Machu Picchu)

4.  A trip centered around relief work (like helping in an orphanage, brining aid to a needy village, “adopting” a child and going on a trip to meet them)

5.  A trip to specific city (like New York) and learning from a broad array of inspirational speakers and teachers while exploring the city.

I know you all freak out over the pressure of saying something down below, but I LOVE to hear from you!  Nothing brightens up my day more.  And you don’t even have to sound intelligent or say anything earth shattering.  Something like, “Number 3″ would suffice.  Or “they all suck” works too.  I’m easy.

If you are shy, make up your name and a fake email address.  I’m not above lying and cheating for good input.

Thank you in advance for and great ideas!

Hundreds of heads are better than one, and I know at least one of you is brilliant, so I thank you for helping me :)

Don’t disappoint me, friends!

Lina, please add me to your Karma Club distro list. I’d love to join you. KT

LOVE all these ideas for trips & must attend a Karma Club sometime! Could have really benefited from a “20 minute stress reduction hypnosis” last night! Can’t wait to see where you travel & take your readers – LHS

    • linadickinson says:

Lara, I will write more about Valerie – she is amazing and extremely regarded and talented. You would have loved it!

    DL,

I was just thinking about going on a gals trip…can I go with you guys? My ultimate idea of a cool trip is biking/eating/sailing down/along a river in the French wine country. Abercrombie and Kent sent me a brochure, it sounds heavenly. Also, LOVE to go on a African safari and photograph the animals in their natural habitat. Finally, the Pyramids in Egypt has always been on my bucket list.

    • linadickinson says:

I like you style. First class all the way :) Let’s start saving our money! I have ALWAYS wanted to do a bike trip like that, but Dalai Dan is totally out. Lame. So it will have to be a girls trip!

  4. Amy says:

Lina, I’m dying to go on a hiking trip…CO, WY, Appalacian Trail; Macchu Picchu has too $$ written all over it! However, booze and lots of food is required (and not twigs and tofu). However, I’m all for the spiritual aspect.

    • linadickinson says:

Agree, Macchu Picchu is far a big mama trip in the future, but you get the idea. And yes, I would feed you real good and wine. But, I would make you eat a salad :) Have you ever read Bryson’s book, “Walk in the Woods.” Hilarious tale of his hike along the Appalacian Trail.

  5. If we can figure out a way to give back AND have a Spa Week, I’m down.

I’ll have my people call your people.

  6. Maria says:

Love it! Practicality withstanding, I’m all for a physical endurance / spa / spiritual retreat or a cultural outting (return visit to Paris); however, I’m sure whatever you come up with would be just outstanding! We were just in Patagonia in February, and I’m still bummed we didn’t make it to Macchu Picchu… oh well. You sure you don’t want to bring the whole clan here to MN this summer :-)

    • linadickinson says:

YES! I’ll definitely be driving through on Aug 9th weekend, so mark your calendar and we will stop over! xo Lina

  7. Lizzie says:

I could lead you into “the abyss” in various places in the southwest which are considered sacred (Chaco Canyon, Monument Valley, and many ruins and petroglyph sites… to name a few). I’m an excellent tour guide =)

  8. tracy says:

I like some combination of 1, 3, and 5. I’ve always wanted to do a silent retreat but don’t think I could handle that for more than a 2/3 day excursion (esp if I went with girlfriends, try 2/3 minutes). Once, as a celebration for finishing an arduous project I did a yoga retreat to Mexico when I was 5 months pregnant. It was amazing. I’d been to Mexico a # of times and never thought it was anything too special until this trip to Maya Tulum–food, spa, beach, yoga–the works and soooo worth it!

    • linadickinson says:

I have always wanted to do a silent retreat too! For a DAY. Ease into it. I here there is a place in our area that you can go for silent overnight retreats. That yoga retreat sounds awesome!

  9. Heather says:

Great trip ideas! I hope to be able to do all of them in my lifetime. At this moment, my top pick would be #5 with some yoga & meditation slipped in!

    • linadickinson says:

I’m with you – I’ve had an itching to go to NYC. I think I can make that happen before hiking Machu Picchu! Getting away for a longer time is harder and harder…these darn kids have more of a calendar than me! Thanks for the input :)

  10. Tess says:

I think a combo trip of all of the above — a day of each!

    • linadickinson says:

I like how you think :) I would like to do all at some point. i was surprised that most people leaned to an active trip (which is really cool!) because I thought that would intimidate people. Would you be scared to bike and hike every day?

  11. Cindy says:

I would love to be on your Karma Club event list.

  12. jeanne says:

Probably not very helpful response, but I like ALL of them…for different reasons. Maybe that’s why we are friends ? =) As long as we don’t have to be perfect and clean and wonderful all the time and I get my red wine and dark chocolate at some point, I am good to go.

Re bike trips – look up http://www.backroads.com

Mike and I did the California wine country for 10 year anniv. Fabulous! I dream of going on another one in Europe this time.

    • linadickinson says:

That site looks great. I want to do them all! Thanks for forwarding it. Did the trip get too exhausting with all of the bike riding?

      • jeanne says:

You can ride as much or as little as you like. When you get tired, a van comes and picks you up and takes you to the next fun winery. They also usually have two options each ride – long and short. The meals you get are so fabulous that you need to ride that much just to break even!

  13. Holly says:

Lina, I love where you’re headed with a meaningful girls trip. Definitely count me in!! All of your options sound great for different reasons, but I’m totally drawn to #4. I think it would be amazing to step out of our over-endulged lives and help people (especially kids) in need. That might be exactly what we need to remind ourselves to relax and appreciate all we have.

I also have two long-distant Karma Club additions to introduce you to: 1. Marisa Giddings (Tim’s cousin from San Diego. She is actually planning a #3-type trip with girlfriends this summer and is a long-time juicer, yogi and believer in past lives) and 2. Tamara Lackey (the photographer I worked for in NC — she is not only a well-known, extremely talented photographer, but has also adopted 2 of her three children — one from Africa and one from Mexico. She is a completely devoted vegan and is one of the most spiritual people I’ve ever met.) I’ll forward this message to them and maybe we can all travel together someday.

    • linadickinson says:

I am so with you on the over-indulged life thing and have been talking with people from Children International about taking a trip to help children through them. I’ll keep you in the loop!

I would LOVE to meet your amazing friends! What is she doing on her trip? I’d love to hear about it! How about you and Tamara go on it and be our photography teachers? I still want lessons from you!

  14. Lisa says:

While I love all of the ideas for various reasons right now a combo of #1 and #2 would be ideal for me. Somewhere where sleep and relaxation are top priorities sounds great – actually, just uninterupted sleep would be enough. Maybe I just need to go to sleep camp. Ha!

    • linadickinson says:

That is what a mother of two little kids needs-sleep! I don’t envy those days. Today I got to sleep in until 8:15! I never could have done that before a couple years ago. It gets better:)

  15. Kathy says:

I just was googling volunteer ops abroad this morning. Orphanages in Nepal, relief work in Haiti. I think any form of travel where you get to know the people and the culture- not just the sites, but the people who live there….is spiritual. I also want to go to Lordes, France where the Virgin Mary has been spotted. sign me up. You might like this site- metador.com. Cool travel articles.

    • linadickinson says:

That is a really cool site – I found it at http://matadornetwork.com

While I love our Disney trips, and times relaxing on the beach, I want more that that for me and for my kids. I want them to know how lucky they are because they have seen the other side!

  16. chris says:

I’d love to be on your email list for the Karma Club. :) and you know I’m up for an adventure of any kind. Trips, yes.

Have you checked out Angela Ritchie’s ACE camps? She organizes some interesting getaways, too… they are more artistic in scope, but there is plenty of experience. Something to chew on, anyway.

  17. chris says:

Ok. Looks like you already know about Angela. She is awesome and now you know why! I went on a Seattle trip with her for a Dottie Angel weekend. xo

    • linadickinson says:

Yes YOU told me about them! They are awesome and that is what inspired me to think about taking a trip that I would already want to plan for myself and open it to others. How was your bday trip? I’d love to see you guys!

      • KL says:

Sedona AZ is a great place to experience all of the above! There is wonderful hiking around Sedona and the Grand Canyon, white water river rafting, a huge New Age Community with experienced practitioners,
gorgeous spas, great food and art….something for everybody. I have been visiting Sedona, nearly yearly, for 25 years. I would be happy to share my secrets, but only if you invite me!

        • linadickinson says:

I went there once in college and have thought that it would be a perfect place to go back to. I will definitely need to pick your brain about that! Thanks for reminding me of that cool city :)
